Students receive Sheriff’s Commendation for saving Lakeland man’s life
On April 8, 2024, junior Alex McManus and sophomore Brian von Suskil planned on driving to Starbucks early in the morning to grab breakfast while they applied for classes. Thinking the coffee house would be crowded, they decided to go to McDonalds instead.This change would alter 71-year-old Terry Dennis’ life forever.
Men break several records, women grab No. 33 spot at NCAA Championships
FSC men's swim team tied for tenth with their Sunshine State Conference (SSC) competitor Lynn University, while the women placed 33rd. According to FSC Athletics, the Mocs left the meet with 16 All-American honors and five broken records.

Where jobs are a pleasure: FSC alumni working for Publix
It’s hard to escape the Publix identity in Polk County, especially at Florida Southern. Our field house, green and sophomore men’s dorms are named after Publix founder George W. Jenkins. The Greek suites, formally known as the Publix Charities Commons, are funded by its namesake. Students will work at their stores after classes, and their headquarters reside in the big glass building by the local airport.
Almost 25 years later, past and present faculty reminisce the canoe club
Deep in the McKay Archives Center is a shelf of old Interlachens – back when they were the school yearbook – depicting the various events at Florida Southern College each academic year. If you pick the 1998 Interlachen from the shelf and turn to pages 98-99, you’ll see a band of adventurous faculty members in canoes.
The citrus legacy: Professor to retire after 44 years
Professor of Citrus Science. Program Coordinator. John and Ruth Tyndall Chair in Citrus Sciences. Beholder of a President’s Volunteer Service Award. The king of FSC citrus Dr. Malcom Manners will retire at the end of the school year after 44 years of service.
